Jakwob (born James Jacob) is a British Dubstep DJ and producer.
Jakwob began making music aged 10 as a multi-instrumentalist and has been involved in many groups from his teenage years onwards, beginning in jazz but moving on to death metal and folk. His style is notable for its transcending of genres and its relative 'accessibility' given the dubstep genre. Both his original work and remixes combine elements of dubstep, electro, ghetto-tech and breakbeat. This eclecticism also manifests itself in Jakwob’s DJ sets, which take in dub, hip-hop, drum and bass, dubstep and beyond. In 2009, he shot to fame after appreciation in the blog world for his bootleg of Ellie Goulding's 'Starry Eyed'. In November 2009, he was given his first airplay on national radio when his remix of Ellie Goulding's "Under the Sheets" was played on BBC Radio 1 as Zane Lowe's 'hottest record in the world'. Jakwob has since continued to produce remixes, including tracks by Matisyahu, Katie Melua, Little Boots, Empire of the Sun, Frankmusik, Lily Allen, Coco Sumner, Temper Trap and M.I.A.
Jakwob released his debut single Here With Me on his own label, Boom Ting Recordings on September 13th, 2010. On November 8th, 2010 Jakwob signed to Mercury Records and is due to release his first album in 2011.
